NaPoWriMo 30 Choice, your name or your Grammy Award speech in a poem.

Pssst.. this is it. Last day.

You are absolutely incredible, participating in NaPoWriMo in whole or part. Congrats. A lot of people drop out completely after a couple of days. Some are able to write about half the time. If you’ve done that… that’s excellent. If you’ve done more… you have the right to brag and do a victory dance…but hey… you know you’ve done it… feel good and keep reading or writing a poem every day. (BONUS TIME happens tomorrow… check here between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. if you dare….

Challenge prompt for Friday, April 30th, 2010

Write a poem about your name. You can use the history of your name, where the root of your name comes from and what it means, or you can make something up about what your name means. You can write a poem about other people who have had your name and what they did. Write about your name… but not about yourself. You can do a bit of research on first name etymology and history right here: behind the name http://www.behindthename.com/ .

OR

You suddenly find yourself in the audience of the Grammy Awards show.. and your name is called as the winner for THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Write a poem, with the album title as the title of your poem . Your acceptance speech is a poem (free-verse or form, rhyming or not). Congratulations by the way.

I double dog dare you to write 2 poems . Write one for each prompt. You can post one today.. and one tomorrow as a Bonus May 1st NaPoWrimo

NaPoWrimo challenge prompt for Thursday, April 29th, 2010

It’s almost the end of NaPoWrimo. Really… I swear.. I swear…

Time to write as if you are someone other than yourself. First… think about an issue that you believe pretty strongly in. could be global warming, could be women’s rights, could be taxes, could be UFOs, could be health care. Write from the perspective of someone who has the exact opposite opinion as you actually have. Write the poem using a different voice than you normally would use…. (in other words if you usually write without a lot humor… use a lot of humor… if you write with a lot of subtlety, be anything but subtle, if you use only a few words, write with too many words… etc.

Have at it.

The root of the word Poetry is from the Greek ποιέω (poieō), “‘I
make’”). , poiesis, meaning a “making” or ‘creation’

Here’s your SUPER PROMPT for April 27th , 2010

If you’ve been writing a poem every day (or nearly every day) for NaPoWriMo well obviously you have some kind of super power….. So today’s prompt: It’s true.. you have a super power. It’s an unusual super power and one that’s so specific and specialized you don’t really get to use it that much. So what’s the the super power and tell us in a poem about your super power. It can be a short whimsical poem or a story poem. Just do it….

The root of the word Poetry is from the Greek ποιέω (poieō), “‘I

It’s Monday, April 26, 2010. You need to escape from Monday…..

Write a poem about a painting or work of art (that we can see on a trip to Google images). Do not describe the painting itself in the poem but rather, give an impression of the painting through color, feeling or incorporate the viewing of the painting through another action or series of thoughts. Use the title of the painting in the title of your Poem. Have fun.

Congratulations for continuing to participate in this crazy NaPoWriMo. Writing every day exercises your creativity. Of course with NaPoWriMo you are essentially posting your rough drafts. Brave or stupid we write and post a poem every day. It must be done.

Here’s your challenge and prompt for this 25th day of NaPoWrimo

You’re late for work or an important date, because you overslept, but your boss hates over-sleepers. (your date doesn’t tolerate lateness) He or she does love entertaining stories however, so create the most outlandish excuse as to why you were late. And please try to make it rhyme….. Late Poem.

It’s the last weekend of NaPoWriMo. You might have noticed I have been writing a Septolet every day in addition to other poems for this year’s NaPoWriMo. What’s a Septolet? It’s a lesser known French form and there’s two ways of doing a Septolet. So let’s write one of each today.

Write two different types of Septolets today.

Septolet 1: Total of 14 words in 7 lines, no line should have more than three words. The poem should relate to one subject, object, thought or feeling. The first four lines create a coherent picture or thought, the last three lines create another. Each could stand separately, but both are related.

Septolet 2: Line 1 has one syllable, Line 2 has two, Line 3 has 3, Line 4 has 4 syllables, space, Line 5 has 3, Line 6 has 2, Line 7 has one syllable. Poem should relate to one thought, feeling, object, place.

Most of the Septolets I write are colloborations with Teresa. I will write every other line. Sometimes I start, sometimes I write the second line. Remarkable what results sometimes. Feel free to do it this way as well.

Happy Writing!!!

The root of the word Poetry is from the Greek ποιέω (poieō), “‘I
make’”). , poiesis, meaning a “making” or ‘creation’

Video killed the radio star and television replaces the reading of books in many households. So let’s take the internet’s television channel… YOUTUBE and use it to inspire us in writing a poem.

TODAY’S PROMPT April 23, 2010:

Go to YouTube and type in Time Waits Poetry or CLICK HERE Explore. Click on some of your choices, let one choice lead to another. Play and listen for 10 minutes or 30 minutes and then create a poem. The poem might be written while you listen and play something. It might be a poem that reflects several of the songs , poems and/or videos you saw.

Let the words you hear and the pictures you see while doing this YouTube exploration start the next poem you write.

The root of the word Poetry is from the Greek ποιέω (poieō), “‘I
make’”). , poiesis, meaning a “making” or ‘creation’

NaPoWrimo challenge prompt for Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

You have past the 2/3 rds point and are heading for the home stretch. Well done.

Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you. So let’s be fearless today. Let’s reach back to the first 4 poems we wrote for NaPoWriMo this year.

Write down the 2nd line,from Poem 1

3rd, line from Poem 2

4th,line from Poem 3 and

5th line from Poem 4

on a piece of paper.

Do this even before you’ve read the full prompt for today.

Got them written down?

If you don’t have them written down… stop… reading and write them down.

It needs to be done.

Now that you have written them down. . .

. . . . . .

. . .

The last line you wrote down (line from 5 from poem 4) becomes the 2nd line of your new poem.

The 3rd line you wrote down (line 4 from Poem 3) becomes the 4th line of your new poem

The 2nd line you wrote down (line 3 from Poem 2) becomes the 5th OR the 6th line of your new poem.

The 1st line you wrote down (line 2 from Poem 1) becomes the 6th, 7th or very last line of your new poem.

You probably want to limit this poem to no more than 10 to 12 lines. 6 or 8 lines is okay too.

Happy writing…..

The root of the word Poetry is from the Greek ποιέω (poieō), “‘I
make’”). , poiesis, meaning a “making” or ‘creation’
