1. The Voice Of Despair

Triangles of half-open doors
Reveal all the truth that is hidden:
Just condoms and cans on the floor,
Black papers with verses, forbidden -
Unfinished remakes of the song,
Deprived of the right to speak loud
Of wicked intentions gone wrong -
Erasers have muffled the shout.

The only illusion-proof mind -
A poet, the voice of despair,
Sincere, the one of this kind
Throws verses far into the air
Right there, in a dirty old flat
Among once great talents, now rotten.
They all have deserved more than that,
But even their names are forgotten.

NEW YORK — Jim Carroll, the poet and punk rocker who wrote “The Basketball Diaries,” died Friday. He was 60.

He died from a heart attack at his home in Manhattan Friday, his ex-wife Rosemary Carroll told the New York Times.

Carroll was a fixture of the 1970s downtown Manhattan scene, where he mixed with artists such as Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe. His life was shaped by drug use, which he wrote about extensively.

Published in 1978, “The Basketball Diaries” is a memoir of Caroll’s youth in New York City. It was made into a movie in 1995 starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Carroll also published several poetry collections. His 1980 album, “Catholic Boy,” has been hailed as a landmark punk record.

Geez, I spent the whole day wondering about trying to think up a new interesting challenge, only to just realize – It’s May!

Congratulations – give yourself a big pat ont he back. Go out an treat yourself to something special.

It’s time to rejoice! And it’s time to relax. Catch up on some sleep.

Speaking of catching up I’m going to finish what I started in May and do the rest of those top 5 napowrimo poems per day.

It almost makes more sense now since people will actually have extra time to read

So What’s Next? Sketch O Rama!

I love that the writing world has Nanowrimo, Script frenzy, napowrimo – but I have had 30 days of words!

Now I want to endulge my visual sensabilities; So I present to you Sketch O Rama.

I propose a one day event of non stop drawing madness. I’m working out the details, But what I’d like to do is organize local artists in Los Angeles to gather as well as artists around the world. I’ll broadcast live from the Los Angeles location and artists with web cams can show off their skills as well.

That’s what I’ve got so far – more to come.

I know I’ve said it before, but time is really flying by. Is it just me, or do you feel like when May hit, it’s going to be a very welcome break from the computer and this electronic world?

'Verses' by Nate Seubert

Today I present to you this image by painter Nate Seubert. I think it expresses what a lot of us have been feeling lately.

Nate does great paintings on uniquely shaped canvases, often depicting a man verse technology thematic. Or in this case, nature verse technology.

Nate was one of four artists in the dash30dash show at transport gallery ‘The Flesh Machines’ back in 2005 (when we recover our archives there will be more from Nate on here)
